I'm back! Anyways, an enjoyable issue for the most part. Still trying to figure out why there's a cavern at the bottom of some random lake that's conveniently in the direction that Dick took off running. I was kinda like wtf about the Croc thing too, but I'll suspend belief and say that initially Bats didn't know what he was goin up against, he reevaluated his tactics and came out on top. I do think you were a little heavy on the "Bat's can't do it" thing underwater when you were describing their movements and such and that's what makes it harder to believe he actually did come out on top that decisively. It's hard to believe that a punch from Batman didn't effect him on land but it somehow did underwater. That's just the swimmer in me talkin though. Still a good read. And unlike Superboy I like the introduction of Slade. Shades of Teen Titans the cartoon (which all though very cartoony I still say has some of the best writing in recent cartoon history right up there with BatmanTAS and Justice League). Good stuff.

Legends of Batman #5 is now posted....
Introducing the DEO. What is this mysterious organization's dirty secret? What are Killer Croc's and Deathstroke's connection to this branch of the government? Also, meet one of the DEO's top agents, Arsenal.

Danny-boy!
At last we see Batman in his element the first part of the story, between Bats & Alfred was great showcasing Bats abilities with detection. Nice tie in with the super-sodier program & Miraclo very cool & logical connection.
Harleys dream (nightmare?) was cool however, it leads me to an issue just how unbalanced is this chick to begin with? I hope it's something you deal with later on, if she is willing to throw away a career & a fiancee for a psycho that made her giggle once I don't know man. There's got to be more to it than that!
Roy Harper as a DEO agent instead of Speedy, OK, I can roll with that.
Dick Grayson is well written I like the fact that he calls Alfred "Al" & "Alfie"... keep that up, I'd like to see just how many variations on Alfred you can come up with. I also liked the appearance of Captain Boomerang. Nice little tie in to Flash.
Arsenal & Bats make nice that quickly and then go on a chase together? Maybe, I know they're after Slade & Croc, seems a little unbelieveable (but then again, this is a comic-book world with fish-men & magic rings, right?). Would Batman trust someone that quickly to ride in the Batmobile? I don't know, maybe a child, but doubtfully a trained DEO agent. Granted, Bats could just hit the ejection seat button if it came down to it!
Only one other problem (and it just may be me) lose the 'stroke' thing, Maybe make that a taunt that Arsenal uses against Slade... Deathstroke is too cool a name to reduce to 'Stroke'.
Otherwise, it was a fun issue!

thanks....glad you approve of the cave scene and my take on Dick Grayson.
and actually, there was a reason bats trusted Roy so quickly. It wasn't him being a DEO agent that made bats trust him. He became trusting when he found out Arsenal's name....which is a small hint to something that will be explored deeper in my Batman: Building a Legend maxiseries which is scheduled to debut in May.
The Harley Quinn thing will surely be dealt with. She is unbalanced...but there's a reason for it....which will surely be dealt with.
and finally.....sure, i'll lose the 'Stroke and just refer to him as Slade or Deathstroke.

Let's see... where to start? It's an interesting story. I mean, it's definitely linking a lot of things throughout the LDCU from Flash, JSA, DEO, and all of that. Definitely agree with Lantern Lad that Dick Grayson was done extremely well.
And now the critique... Lantern Lad makes a good point about Harleen and how quickly she seems to just go psycho after one giggle and a dream. It just seems like you're rushing in characters like I've mentioned before about Flash. The 'Stroke thing brings up something more about structure. It may be easier to abbreviate things but when you're writing like this, abbreviations just don't cut it. So the Batmobile can't be referred to as the 'mobile in narration but like Lantern Lad said about 'stroke, it can be used in dialogue. I can tell you have some great plans for future stories, but you can't just make things happen that will be explained later without any hint. That's why it becomes such an odd occurence for Batman to trust a DEO agent he was fighting with just minutes prior. All it takes for that to make sense is to mention more than just Batman reading the name off of a badge. It's such a minor moment that you wouldn't make any note of the fact that he even reads the name unless you go back, which I did after you mentioned him noticing the name.
More on the personal side... I guess Roy isn't going to be a founding member of the Teen Titans since he's starting off as Arsenal. It's all good though.

See I just read it as they both realized they had bigger problems than scrapping it out on a roof. I never understand that in comics, these are supposed to be their universes best and brightest and they'll let people get away just so they can squabble. I liked it but now that I find it was just a hint that he knew Harpers father or something I'm kinda on the fence about it...
I like Dick, but I have to admit I got a shudder with the whole Al' thing just cuz I instantly flashed back to Chris O'Donnel and Batman Forever... ugh....
I like the whole DEO/Slade/Arsenal/Boomerang thing, but it's getting too national too quick. To me Gotham is as big a character in the Bat mythos as Batman, and already you're stemming out into the government and national arena like you ran outta Gotham stories to tell... this would have been an awesome Year two arc I guess... not that i'm complaining it's still a great read.
I think they've said all my insecurities about Harley's character, it would have been nice to see a gradual buildup to insanity if you were gonna go through all the trouble of giving her an origin story that involves Dent and spreads over a couple of issues it woulda been a little better in my mind...
Still a good read though and I'm looking forward to issue 6. Keep em rollin.

And the Titans are all kinds of messed up! Dick's 12, Roy's 21, Donna seemed late teens early twenties, and Wally is 15-16 right? Why!? lol oh well, guess we'll get a really different origin story for the Titans. Looking forward to u guys pulling that one off.

actually, dick is 14....i'm not sure, but i think kevin (the LoWW writer) said Donna was 15 (i could be wrong). Wally i believe is 16 (could be wrong there too) certainly all teens, so they fit with teen titans. I know in the regular DC Dick was the oldest and now he's the youngest, but aside from that, there's not anything big....
okay...Roy being 21...kinda big.....but too me, roy as arsenal is much better than him as a Robin-wannabe....plus I had a good idea for him...and some of his back story...plus, when the TT do form (yeah, there is something planned for them once the JLA form (yes, there will be a JLA, too...lol)), Roy will kinda have a loose connection with them. I know people might not like a character's history completely revamping but it was done for the story, plus for the character himself.
and regarding the new point about making it too international....i guess you're right and that could be a mistake....but this DEO stuff won't be the main focus of the title. it won't exactly be forgotten, but it won't be what drives the book

Roy was never a Robin wannabe... And I think you've just... I don't get your stories... I don't know how to describe it, but for me... They just don't work... I dunno... I mean, come on, Chloe Sullivan is the director of the DEO? What? It just doesn't work for me...

well...in my story i never said Roy was a Robin wannabe, but if you pay attention to regular DCU continuity, Roy WAS a Robin wannabe (much like GA was a Batman wannabe...lol). In my story, Robin doesn't exist yet so Roy isn't a Robin wannabe.
As far as Chloe being a Director of the DEO, that will be explored a bit more later on

Personally. I liked the story. I don't see how arsenal here is a wanabee robin at all. And i think the Director Sullivan thing is a grear twist

It was a good issue. Plain and simple, but I'm still waiting on a few things like the Harley Quinn explanation and Harvey's connection to the budding Suicide Squad.
I know what you're saying about Roy and the whole Robin wanna-be thing. I read about it in an interview about the Titans cartoon that the decisions they made for Speedy were based off his being a Robin wanna-be. Like Green Arrow started off as s Batman wanna-be in the sense that he was millionaire turned hero and he had an Arrow-cave and an Arrowmobile and Arrow-gadgets.
The only thing I have against the Chloe Sullivan thing is that I'm kinda looking forward to her being the one to die in the 100th episode. Think about it. Gough has said someone important will die in the 100th episode and since Chloe Sullivan has yet to exist in the DC Comics continuity she's is very liable to be on the chopping block. (Although I just read she may be introduced into comics soon because of her popularity.) The only other recurring character on Smallville that could be dead because of what is known of Superman's beginning is Lionel Luthor.
